Overall Aim for this session: To give UK healthcare professionals a clear, progressive understanding of COPD care in everyday NHS practice – starting with the fundamentals of symptoms and diagnosis (aligned with NICE NG115 and CKS), moving through current UK guidelines and their alignment with GOLD 2026, highlighting the important link with cardiovascular disease, covering practical sustainable approaches that support NHS net-zero goals, and finishing with real-world case studies – all designed to improve patient management and outcomes across primary and secondary care.
Objectives:
- Recognise core COPD symptoms and apply UK diagnostic approaches (NICE NG115 / CKS).
- Implement UK guidelines and best practice for assessment and management, including alignment with GOLD 2026.
- Identify the connection between COPD and cardiovascular risk and apply practical reduction strategies relevant to UK pathways.
- Integrate sustainable, lower-carbon practices into routine COPD care while maintaining optimal clinical control in line with NHS priorities.
